LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RELEASES - 2014 CRIME STATISTICS

(Los Angeles, California – March 6, 2015) According to statistics released today by airport officials, the total number of reported Part I Crimes at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) decreased 1.1 percent by six incidences to 535 in 2014 compared to 541 in 2013. Los Angeles Airport Police also reports 11.8 percent decrease in the number of arrests made last year. In total, there were 1,089 arrests in 2014 compared to 1,235 in 2013, a decrease of 146. Airport Police statistics cover the approximately 3,600 acres of LAX property, including passenger terminals, parking facilities, aircraft ramps, offices and cargo areas.
The category of Part I Crimes Against Persons includes crimes such as Homicide, Rape, Aggravated Assault and Robbery.

Passenger volume at LAX increased 5.9 percent in 2014. Nearly 70.7 million travelers used LAX, up 3.3 million from 66.7 million in 2013.
"In 2014 Airport Police and Security Officers have continued to work hard to ensure that LAX is safe for the traveling public,” said Los Angeles Airport Police Chief Patrick Gannon. “I am pleased with the modest reduction in crime even though passenger traffic increased by nearly six percent."

There were 527 Part I Crimes Against Property in 2014, equal to the number in 2013. Of the nearly 6.2 million vehicles parked in LAX parking facilities last year, there were five reports of auto theft in 2014 compared to seven in 2013. In addition, there were 14 reports of burglary from locked vehicles, a decrease of 48 percent when compared to the 27 incidents in 2013. Property theft from unlocked/unsecured vehicles increased slightly to 25 incidents in 2014 compared to 21 incidents in 2013.

Miscellaneous Offenses increased to 1,369 in 2014 compared to 1,049 in 2013. Last year there was an increase of Transportation Network Company (TNC) violations pertaining to businesses which were operating a vehicle for hire without proper authority. Reports of battery increased to 59 in 2014 from 40 incidents in 2013. Reports of vehicle vandalism from all airport parking facilities, including employee parking lots, increased to 41 incidents in 2014 from 29 in 2013.
